Welcome to Project Portal!
Our fourth interview with Dr. David Baker from the Rosetta@Home Project has been posted!
With the recent increase in the number of distributed computing projects around, we decided to find a way to help you decide what project you would like to participate in. Now there are many places to go to find teams, and find lists of projects with basic descriptions, and places with greats stats, and pretty graphs, but we just felt like that wasn't enough. Its great information, and if you can't find it, we would love to point you toward it, just ask around in the forums.
What we wanted to do was attempt to put a human face on the projects. We noticed that most projects that were run well had great people behind them. Sometimes we got to know a bit about them, sometimes we didn't. And we also knew that often there are too many good causes to go around, and frequently, people wanted to know more than we could tell.
From that was born these pages, which will hopefully grow over time. Now we won't just focus on the project leaders, expect to see interviews with people who founded or run teams, run those lovely stats sites that we all use, or make the tools that make this more fun. But for now, we will start simple.
Also, take a look at our first three interviews, with Dr. Thomas Rattei of SIMAP and Neil Munday of boinc.mundayweb.com and Alex Chudnovsky. Give it a read, and then let us know what you think!
If you think that we should be interested in you, we are looking for willing volunteers to be profiled. Contact us via this form, and if you don't, we may find you anyway!
Also new this week we have a RSS feed (see the icon in the left hand column), and if you want to link to us, feel free to use the following image and code:
